The history of Oracle

Oracle Corporation is a global company that designs and develops computer software applications for different business domains and helps them respond spontaneously to the ever-changing marketing needs thus enabling them to remain competitive. The Oracle headquarters are based in Redwood Shores in the state of California.

In 1977, Ed Oates, Bob Miner, and Larry Ellison established Software Development Labs, a firm that released the first commercial SQL relational database management system leading to a major development in enterprise computing. Formerly, the company was called Software Development Laboratories (SDL) and it operated from Santa Clare California. In June 1979, Software Development Laboratories was branded and became Relational Systems Inc (RSI) and it moved to Menlo Park, California.

The company was later christened Oracle as their project Oracle v2 that received resounding success all over the world.

Growth in 198Os

In 1981, Umang Gupta joined the oracle founders and led in the creation of the development of the business plan as the General Manager as well as Vice President that changed Oracle history. Further, the company was renamed Oracle Systems Corporation to enable alignment with the written business plan and their product. They started rewriting Oracle Database in c to allow for portability and design of Oracle v3 and VAX-mode database that was followed by the release of Oracle V4 IN 1984 to maintain consistency and that run on MS-DOS version (4.1.4) at 512k memory.

When oracle v5 was released, it prompted the growth of their revenue of $55 million in 1986. A year later, Oracle v6 was developed that entailed hot backups and integration of PL/SQL procedural databases. Umang Gupta seems to have injected new energy into the oracle founders as in 1988, the firm introduced PL/SQL and by 1989 when the firm was moving to the Redwood shores 1989, revenues had increased up to $584 million.

Loss and competition in the 1990s

It was until 1990 when oracle made their first loss during their third quarter that implicated a lot of realignment and restructuring to gain an impetus in hope of better performance. As a result of the loss, many employees lost their jobs as one of the strategies to cut costs. In 1992, Oracle 7 was released that included application development tools, capacity to use Pl/SQL program units, enhanced administration usability, and improved security features. It is the same year when Oracle adopted a full merger with other related companies that had a shared vision of transforming the database management sector and other technology applications.

Oracle Systems Corporation made the first merger with Oracle Corporation on 1st June 1995 that led to the renaming of Oracle Systems Corporation and it was incorporated as a Delaware Corporation.

As a result of the merger, by November 1995 Oracle became one of the software giant companies to record growth with a strategic plan that technology experts argued was aimed at competing against Microsoft since they released the first 64-bit RDBMS. Another major milestone at Oracle was realized in 1966 when they created a web browser (Oracle Power browser) that features various interfaces with the ability to serve as web servers where users could host online webpages.

Moreover, in June 1997, they developed the Oracle v8 which had support for terabytes of data with a combination of SQL object technology. Since then, the Oracle Corporation induced JDeveloper and declaration of becoming loyal to java.

The Oracle Corporation has continued to be an influential multinational company that redefines how technology is being incorporated in business through innovation and continues to set the standards in the 21 Century through an expansion plan that aims to streamline enterprise business processes.
